Changing Spark Plugs?

I have a V6 2001 Chevy Malibu, can i change the spark plugs on my own? Where are they located? If one or two spark plugs goes bad, what would the symptoms be? Thanks
Changing Spark Plugs?
Before you make this decision, look at the engine, locate the spark plugs by following the spark plug wires and decide if you can easily reach them. How much space is there? Do you have to remove a lot of other things other than air filters? Then, do you have the tools? The right size spark plug socket?

Changing the plugs is like changing a light bulb, they screw in and out of the socket, but all the other stuff is in the way. (and the fit is tighter/harder)

The plugs need to be properly gaped which the auto store can tell you how much for your car or may even set them for you.

Change all the plugs at the same time because it will take out any guess work %26amp; be cheaper. (in the long run)

Do Not remove all of the wires at one time!! Take one plug at a time to avoid messing up the firing order of the plugs.

And don't forget to buy hand cleaner, it's a dirty job.

PS When removing the old plug, make sure the socket is sucured tightly onto the plug or it could/will break off.

I didn't have the internet available when I first learn and there are sites that include step by step instruction and pictures. Use the search to find a site you like best!
Changing Spark Plugs?
You can change the plugs on your own. The front 3 should be no problem, but getting to the back three is more difficult. You should be able to tell where they are, as you'll see wires travelling to the plugs from the distributor. You should see 6 wire caps all plugged into one area, follow the wires, they go to the plugs. If one plug is bad, you'll have a misfire or no fire on a cylinder, the engine will run rough, you'll probably have a Check Engine Light on. You do not want to run your engine in this state, it could cause serious damage.
sandie b knows her stuff
Yes, you can do it yourself. However there are 3 plugs in back and 3 in the front of the engine. The three in the front will bee easy. just follow the Grey or black thick wires to each of the plugs. wires will pop off of the plugs when the boot on wire is pulled firmly. The plugs in the back may be tricky due to the engines proximity to the firewall. To answer your second part of the question. if one or more spark plugs is faulty and not firing the engine will %26quot;misfire%26quot; causing a lack of power and a loping of the engine. This should also trigger a %26quot;check engine light on the dash.( also a little engine icon on some models) this light stays on while driving. On your Malibu, Plug replacement is not recommended or needed until 100,000 miles. but if your ready, don't skimp on price. Chevy and all GM's are very sensitive to cheap parts.
