Changing spark plugs on a jeep liberty 2003?

You didnt mention what size the engine was. If it is the 2.4L, which I have in my TJ......stupid neon enine........ You will have to remove the throttle body in order to get to the plugs in the rear of the block. Its not that hard, you need a 10mm socket and just move it out of the way. Make sure you have a GOOD set of spark plug sockets. I bought the cheapo ones at advance and the rubber grommet kept coming off on the insulator while the plug was seated...... I wised up and got a craftsman set. Do not over torque the plugs but do not under torque them either. You can find the specifications in a Haynes manual or drop $35 clams on ALLDataDIY and you will find everything you need to know to fix your ride. Its basicly a Factory Service manual with more step by step instructions.

I think all Jeep Liberty's are 3.7L V6's so there will be 6 spark plugs. 3 on the left, 3 on the right. Start by pulling off one of the spark plug wire boots. Trace the wire back to the distributor or coil pack. Disconnect it. Connect the new plug wire onto the distributor or coil pack. Get a spark plug socket that fits your spark plug. Loosen the spark plug and take it out. Take the new plug, gap it according to specs (should be on a sticker under the hood somewhere) and thread it in. Not too tight, not too loose. Then connect the new spark plug wire to the new spark plug. Do the same for the other 5 and you'll be good! Make sure you do one at a time so you don't mix up the wires. This should take you about 30 minutes or so. Good luck!

The best way to change spark plugs is to take one plug out at a time. Check the Gap replace it with the new one. Then put the wire back on. Then move to the next one. That way there is no way to put the wires on the wrong way. And your vehicle will run correctly.
Not a hard task.
