Are spark plugs pre-calibrated or do you have to do that yourself?

We had to change spark plugs on our car and the person that changed them didn't calibrate them. Now our service engine light comes on. Could that have something to do with that?

Normally if you ask the parts center if the plugs are pre-gapped they will tell you. Even if you purchase pre-gapped plugs, it is good to check the gap. The service rep. at the parts center will tell you that also. Dont think incorrect plug gap will throw a check engine light.

Sounds like an oxygen sensor.

If the plugs are Platinum or Iridium they come pre-gapped. It is recommend that that you double check (just in case they gave you the wrong ones).

But if the gaps are wrong, you take it back. The tips are extra hard metal and will snap before being gapped

Possibly. Or possibly one of dozen other things. Get the engine code scanned. Otherwise you are guessing - and that cost MORE money.

Go to Autozone and they scan cars for free.

good luck...
.you should all ways set the gap.must be a dumb mechanic.
You have to check the gap on the plugs.
