Why won't my car start after I changed the spark plugs and distributor cap?

First I sprayed a degreaser on the engine and hosed it down. I then changed the spark plugs and distributor cap. I went to turn it on and it would not start.

YOU SHOULD HAVE TURN ON YOUR ENGINE FIRST AND LET IT RUN UNTIL ITS DRY THEN CHANGE YOUR PLUGS AND CAP I HOPE YOU DIDN'T SPRAYED WATER ON YOUR DISTRIBUTOR AND ALTERNATOR COZ IT WILL KILL THOSE PARTS N E WAYZ TRY DRYING IT OUT AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR DISTR...cap is dry too and make sure you put the right plugs and tighten those up.... ok? hope this will help you......

you could have water in the dist. cap.

did you accidentally put the rotor on facing the wrong way?

and make sure all the wires are connected correctly?

is it trying to start, sounds like i t hits on a few cyclinders

or non at all?

did you put the rotor back in?
The wires in the cap aren't leading to the correct fireing order, if the rotor button hasn't accidently struck a terminal inside the cap. Pull the cap and make sure none of the discusting degreaser hasn't loused up the points or ignition module.

what about the rotor, did you get it on right? do you have the plug wires on right? you said you hosed it down? probably you got water in the distributor.
This is too little too late. Tinkering has rules and one rule is do one thing at a time. Like, start engine to see how it is running. Then clean the engine and start the engine again. If it is okay then replace spark plug wires and then start engine etc. This way when something goes wrong it is narrowed down. At this stage there colud be many things from water in the electronics spark plug wires or coil wire mislocated or loose or spark plug gap. Other posts cover other things that could be wrong.
ck a couple of things,

1.moister in the dist.base

2.make sure the wires are in the correct spots

3.make sure the plugs are gapped to the correct setting, most of the times you buy plugs, they say that they are pregapped, but by the time you get them, they are not.
